Finding Your Niche

Finding A Passionate Niche To Serve!

Let’s start with a definition… Niche =  Distinct market segment with specific needs.

I.E. people with interests in:

  • Fly fishing
  • Better parenting
  • Baseball card collecting
  • Kit car building
  • Cabinetmaking
  • Survivalist training
  • Teaching adults
  • Cryptocurrency investing
  • Etc.

You get the idea…

If  your online business sells affiliate products, your site needs a specific niche focus that speaks directly to the aficionado of a particular topic. What these people are looking for are products and solutions for their particular interest.

Show your enthusiasm!

Ideally you want to be as enthusiastic about the topic as your market. It is possible to have a niche site on a subject that you’re not really excited about, but long term you’ll get bored with it unless you have an outsourcer/employee to maintain and grow it.

When you’re knowledgeable about a subject, can talk about it for hours and get really animated about it too, chances are that will come across on your website and that’s when the magic happens!

What if you have many niche interests?

Well in case you’re not sure of which niche you want to pick, there are many sources that can help you decide. All that’s required is a bit of research to get you pointed in the right direction.

To create a viable source of income from your site though, there are other factors to consider such as market size, popularity in search, long-term potential etc. Don’t worry, I’ll go over these in another post…

In the meantime, let’s get some ideas!

Essentially, everything pretty much falls under these four broad categories:

  • Health
  • Relationships
  • Money
  • General Interest

And within those categories you want to get more specific and find a sub-niche so that you reach a targeted audience.  Don’t go for a top level category, that’s much too big and nebulous for you to be effective. For example:

Health ⇒ Pain Management ⇒ Natural Remedies & Exercises for Osteoarthritis.

Relationships ⇒ Parenting ⇒ Dealing With Rebellious Teens

Money ⇒ Investing ⇒ Investing in Cryptocurrencies

General Interest ⇒ Sports ⇒ Training For Triathletes

The Dummies.com Store is a great place to start. They have thousands of titles on everything from Antiquing to Internet Security to Wine…

The best part is that for each Dummies book there’s a table of contents that you can read through to find out what information people are looking for when they buy a book. And it doesn’t cost a cent for you to do this.

You can also browse through Magazines.com, ClickBank.com, JVZoo.com, and more…
