Niche Success

Niche Factors For Success As An Affiliate

To create a focus for your site you need to choose a target market that we call a niche.

A niche can be a group interested in any particular topic. It can be a hobby like gardening, a lifestyle interest such as healthy eating, a problem that needs an immediate fix like a leaky toilet, etc.

Ideally you’ll have an interest in the niche you sell to, otherwise working your website will be a chore. Your readers will feel that and will lose interest.

However, to generate a viable source of income there is a combination of factors to consider such as market size, popularity in search, long-term potential, variety of useful products to sell, etc.

There are free tools you can use to start researching a niche. One of those is Google’s Keyword Planner

Select the country you want to search in and enter your keyword. You’ll get a list of results that will show the approximate monthly search volume for it.

You can then add a number of results to an “Ad Group” and then view the “Plan Overview”.

You can do this without running an ad by the way.

When you look at the Plan Overview, you’ll get an idea of the top locations for your keywords and metrics for mobile, tablets and computers.

This is useful demographic information you can use when you start advertising.

For now let’s focus on finding a niche.

Other free sources you can use to gauge the viability of a niche are physical and information products.

You can do this without even leaving home! Just go to Amazon and look up books on your chosen topic.  The “For Dummies” books are great as you can take a look at the table of contents and probably a few chapters as well.  Go to the For Dummies store to see the full catalog of their publications.

Now lookup products related to your topic. For example when I do a lookup on “gardening”, I get exactly 300,000 results: books, tools, accessories, seeds, etc.

I could go on and on, but I’ll let ClickBank do the talking.  They have a number of good training videos on their YouTube channel. See below for the one on how to choose your niche.

**FULL DISCLOSURE**: I am an affiliate for the ClickBank University 2.0 program which teaches people how to sell affiliate products and also how to create their own to sell on ClickBank.

This training program has been around since 2014 and has been updated, hence the 2.0.  If you click on a link to their program from my site, I may be paid a commission if you sign up.

The ClickBank affiliate marketplace was launched in 1998 and now has over 10,000 vendors and 100,000 affiliates, so you can trust that it’s  a legitimate business.

There is more of a focus on product creation in ClickBank University than in-depth affiliate training. However, ClickBank does provide a full 30-day 100% satisfaction guarantee with a  no-questions-asked refund policy.

The fee is $47 per month ongoing. There is a pricey upsell for ClickBank Builder, a membership site/funnel/page-builder. This is specifically for people who want to be VENDORS on ClickBank, however there are other alternatives on the market.  You don’t need it if you just want to sell affiliate products.

You can get an idea of what the program is about at ClickBank University 2.0.  The sales video is quite long, but you can get straight to the point by reading the sales page below it for details about the training.

What I recommend is if you have an interest in ClickBank University and do sign up for it, jump in right away and go hard during the guarantee period to see if this is right for you. If it isn’t, you can then get your money back.

ClickBank University 2.0 includes the following:

  • 8-Week Affiliate + 12-Week Vendor Class
  • Bi-Weekly Expert Classes
  • Specially Curated Add-on Trainings
  • CBU Toolkit and Traffic Center
  • Massive Discounts on our Favorite Tools
  • Live Events for a Fraction of the Price
  • And The Exclusive ClickBank University Community
